Superpuppy Handy Hints -  Fast Food for Fast Learners

1. Never feed from a dog bowl. Measure all the dog’s food out. Put some into Kongs (with honey and a liver treat or two), hide some of it in the patio, or the garden or in the Digging Pit, where you want your puppy to dig and keep the rest in pots near the front door, and around the house or in a treat bag hanging on your waist or belt. Also in your dog’s crate, door closed until you are leaving.
2. When the puppy is near you – say the name “Jilly”, (Use a whistle and blow it after you have said “Jilly” and before you say “come here”). Tell the puppy what you want her to do “Come here” in a singing, higher pitched voice, and give puppy a piece of the dinner kibble. Tell the puppy “what a good puppy – “go play”. Repeat. As the puppy comes towards you, sound very excited, “Yes! Good puppy” so that the puppy realizes that coming towards you is what you want and what will earn some food. As the puppy arrives, really praise, then ask for a sit. Reach for the collar and touch it briefly, give a piece of food, and say “good puppy, go play”. Repeat.
